Joint [JOINT] ventures…

In the last two weeks, I’ve been working on a Request for Proposal for a large project sponsored by the national arts council.  No doubt, it will be a long shot, but it was an interesting process to assemble our package.

The basic PR stuff that most offices already have on hand as boilerplates had to be assembled in a matter of days– our CVs, office structure, team/staff, letterhead/graphic identity suitable for all different medias (CD covers, transmittal forms, envelopes, etc)….nothing but a mad scramble to look official…not to mention double checking the legal ramifications of our newly formed office.  The distinctions between “joint ventures” vs. “collaborations” became apparent in terms of setting up liabilities and roles.  This all sounds super boring and already as I’m writing it, start glazing over….but it’s this stuff that seems really important when you are trying to secure larger, legit jobs.

In addition, we engaged an artist to be apart of our design team for this project…this complicated it a little more. How do you deal with the new collaborations as they become joint, JOINT ventures?
